The design team is busy putting together the final drawing packages from the charrette, which will be posted here over the next several days, and if you interested in seeing the final presentation again we’ll have video post here shortly for you viewing as well. 

Waterfront redevelopment:
“Like how parking is blocked by trees/sidewalk.”
“Excellent idea. Will increase parking and improve bike safety.”

Development on Narragansett Ave:
“Don’t try to make it into a ‘village center.’ That type of re-development is not why we live here. We can go to the mainland for that.”
“We’re going to lose a lot of green space on Narragansett. The town should buy land for a pocket park to preserve some of that.”

Rezoning of the four corners:
“Four corners will develop eventually. When it happens lets have the zoning code to make sure it is done right.”

Affordable housing options:
“Three stories is way too high.”
“Too large for the area.”
“Cluster of affordable housing will have the stigma of a project—we should restrict the number of units per area to avoid this.”

We have incorporated the community’s suggestions in developing our recommendations for Jamestown’s village. Please join us Friday evening for the final presentation of the team’s work.

Redesigning the waterfront area of Jamestown would provide improved public access, parking and views to the water. The improvements that facilitate these goals include the construction of a formalized boardwalk a small park area and public dock. The dock is multipurpose, providing both easy public access to the water for swimming, as well as a harbor location for dinghies used to reach the larger moored sailing boats. Additional improvements include redesigning the parking area along the waterfront south of the marina. This will provide additional parking options for residents, patrons and employees of Naragansett Avenue.

Furthermore, the East Ferry Commercial Building is being designed to provide additional housing on an added second floor. Also, the parking area adjacent to this building will be reconfigured to provide more integrated public green at the end of Narragansett Avenue without compromising the much-needed parking in this area.

Overall, the redesigned waterfront would provide improved access to the water for the residents and visitors of Jamestown. We are looking for your ideas and comments on this proposal. Please comment below or come visit us at the studio in Town Hall.
