The mission focuses on four areas for study
and then guidance:
- Narragansett Avenue
- Neighborhoods adjacent to Narragansett Avenue
- Four Corners
- East Ferry waterfront
Our community conversation engages
questions like:
- How can we protect the character of Jamestown and
evolve through the 21st century?
- How can we make affordable housing beautiful?
- What do energy efficient, green buildings look like in
the context of Jamestown’s character?
- How can density – more height and compactness – be
restricted to the right places?
The project will deliver four products:
- Facilitation of a public engagement process among
diverse citizens focused on the future of our island
- Design guidelines for the study areas that provide
guidance on aesthetics like windows and building
materials.
- A form-based zoning code, established by ordinance
(town law), to define the form of future development,
such as how buildings relate to the street.
- A pattern book of sample “building looks” that will
guide developers and builders and meet the
requirements of the form-based code.
