The mission focuses on four areas for study
and then guidance:

  • Narragansett Avenue
  • Neighborhoods adjacent to Narragansett Avenue
  • Four Corners
  • East Ferry waterfront

Our community conversation engages
questions like:

  • How can we protect the character of Jamestown and
    evolve through the 21st century?
  • How can we make affordable housing beautiful?
  • What do energy efficient, green buildings look like in
    the context of Jamestown’s character?
  • How can density – more height and compactness – be
    restricted to the right places?

The project will deliver four products:

  • Facilitation of a public engagement process among
diverse citizens focused on the future of our island
  • Design guidelines for the study areas that provide
guidance on aesthetics like windows and building
    materials.
  • A form-based zoning code, established by ordinance
(town law), to define the form of future development,
such as how buildings relate to the street.
  • A pattern book of sample “building looks” that will
guide developers and builders and meet the
    requirements of the form-based code.
